Parkour Facility Benefits From Investment

A Parkour facility in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, has been transformed following a £111,000 project. The work makes it the largest free-to-access park of its kind in the UK.

Throughout the last four years, North Lanarkshire Council, the Coatbridge Parkour group and the local community have worked together to create the facility in the town's West End Park. An extensive consultation period was carried out to ensure the facility was suitable for a range of users, and the work includes a new soft bonded surface, allowing the facility to be used throughout the year.

Officially opening the new facility, Councillor Heather McVey said: "Parkour is a fun, creative, physical and non-competitive activity in which people of all ages, genders and abilities can take part. This new park will allow people easy and free access to the sport and encourage increased activity levels in the young people of our community.

"This park is the largest of its type in the entire UK and we are extremely proud to have provided this for the residents of Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire and the wider area."

Funding for the park was made available from the Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund, Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN), North Lanarkshire Council Local Development Programme and Culture NL.
