Construction News Image
Lovell has revealed it has secured five contracts worth a total £59m this summer.

The contracts will see the Glasgow-based housebuilder create 675 new, affordable homes at locations in Edinburgh and West Lothian. In addition to the new properties, the business wins will also provide a boost for local construction jobs.

In a statement, Lovell said it had been appointed by Places for People – a property management, development and regeneration company – to design and build a £16.7m development of 183 new homes in Wester Hailes, south-west Edinburgh. Work on the project is due to begin this month and will take around two years to complete.

Prior to this, the firm was appointed for three new contracts by West Lothian Council worth around £38m. Lovell will construct 443 council homes in Bathgate, Blackburn, Broxburn and Pumpherston.

Lastly, the housebuilder has also been selected by Almond Housing Association to deliver a £4.1m development of 49 houses and flats for social rent at Whitburn, Bathgate. Work has recently started on the 60-week construction programme.

Commenting on the contracts, Lovell Regional Director Alan Taylor, said: "Our teams are delighted to be starting work on these major housing schemes. As well as creating much-needed new affordable homes, these developments will play an important part in helping drive forward the local economy by delivering local jobs and training opportunities.

"That is essential to us as a company which is committed to long-term investment in communities. Our aim is to have a positive impact in the areas where we work, enabling lasting benefits of the projects we work on to be shared by local people."
