It will see 750 new homes constructed, of which 188 will be affordable housing, a business park with offices, business space, workshops, a Sainsbury's supermarket, neighbourhood shopping centre, a hotel, petrol station, primary school community facilities and parkland, a park-and-ride facility and walking, cycling and safe vehicle routes.

The development will be carried out over a 10-year period and some 2,700 construction jobs are expected to be created, while around 1,000 new jobs are expected for the local area once completed.

Councillor Bill Grant, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure, said: "This is great news and we can now look ahead to delivering the Corton development in the right way within the south-east Ayr area and create a dynamic, inclusive and accessible community, maximising the potential it offers for the local economy and beyond.

"This corner of the town will be significantly enhanced by the development, with hundreds of new jobs and new homes welcoming new residents and families, a superb new school, landscaped green spaces and community facilities."
