Kingdom Housing Association has said it is to apply for planning permission, in principle, for an affordable housing development.
The application for Oakley Road in Saline, will be made in August, according to Housing News.
The plans are for approximately 55 homes to be built on a site near the south edge of the village, but only the principle of using the site for this purpose will be sought at this stage.
Bill Banks, Depute Chief Executive with Kingdom said: "There is a great need for more affordable housing in Saline and the wider area. We believe the opportunity for local people to access modern, high-quality, energy-efficient housing will prove very popular.
"The site and location is a good one, and – if we receive planning permission in principle – we intend to bring forward and consult on detailed proposals for it in 2014. In the meantime we are happy to have an opportunity to discuss the project with local residents on the 4th of June, and we invite as many people as possible to come along."
Kingdom Housing has already met with Saline & Steelend Community Council to discuss the project and will hold a public drop-in event at Saline Community Centre on Tuesday 4 June from 4pm to 8pm.
