Sky’s The Limit For New Sunbreeze System

Construction News Image
David Halliday and Michael McGrory are hoping their simple but safe Sunbreeze System will stop children loosing there fingers and soon be taking the market by storm.

Brainchild of entrepreneur David Halliday, the Sunbreeze System is designed specifically to prevent French patio doors slamming shut when left open, doors are responsible for thousands of finger trap injuries and related accidents every year.

The product can reduce the number of accidents which occur with French/patio doors, particularly in young children trapping their fingers. In the UK 40,000 children receive hospital treatment for these injuries each year caused by trapping fingers in doors, with up to 5% requiring reconstructive surgery. This is not surprising as up to 40 tonnes per square inch pressure can be exerted between the door and the hinge, that can almost cut steel.

The innovative invention came about after a sudden breeze during a family barbeque caused David’s patio door to swing open, hitting and injuring his daughters in the process.

After using a plank of wood to prop the doors open from the top, he then searched the internet but couldn’t find a solution to his problem. After talking to his cousin Michael, the two developed a robust product that could be installed by anyone for all types of patio doors. The product evolved to include an attractive pull out awning, LED lights and a bug net which also creates an ambient inside space outside. Also with the added benefit of cost savings on repairs to doors, hinges, glass and brickwork caused when the doors are caught by gusts of wind.

David and Michael generated a lot of interest from neighbours and friends with the Sunbreeze System and immediately felt they were on to a winner. A few months later, Michael reached the final of a Dragons’ Den style competition at the E-Factor Enterprise Expo and showcased a prototype to renowned entrepreneur Rachel Elnaugh.

Since then the duo have struck up a relationship with Richard Branson’s former right-hand man, Australian entrepreneur Brad Rosser, after clinching a final place at the Business Start Up Show in London. They are also working with award winning design agency Zisys Ltd who are providing support to help them mass produce the Sunbreeze System in Taiwan. David Yeudall of Zisys designed the first bionic hand which was one of Time magazines top 50 inventions of 2008.

David Yeudall, Managing Director of award winning Design Company, Zisys Limited said: "It has been a pleasure to work with Michael and David on their fantastic Sunbreeze project. This innovative product will take the market by storm when released...and that will be in a few short weeks. The Sunbreeze folks are both innovative and forward thinking...we look forward to working on many projects together."
