What Katie Did Next: Scotland's Top Apprentice

Scotland's top apprentice is Dumfries and Galloway Council's Katie Redden.

She has just won the APSE Scottish Apprentice of the Year award and is the first female apprentice to win the top honour.

Joinery apprentice Katie said: "It was brilliant to get to the final and I'm really proud and happy to have won. It's a real honour for me and my mentor. I really enjoy all the different jobs I do at the Council. My work colleagues have been really supportive." Councillor Graham Nicol, chairman of the Council’s Resources committee, said: "Being recognised as the top apprentice in Scotland is an absolutely fantastic achievement for Katie. She is a credit to herself, the Council and this region.

"She is obviously a top-class apprentice having reached the final of the UK competition last year. Her success shows the excellent standard of training she is receiving from DG First. I congratulate her and wish her every success in her future career."

Last year Katie was one of the top local authority apprentices in the UK, reaching the final of the UK female apprentice category.
