Work Begins On £2.8m Fife Community Hub Project

Construction News Image
Work has begun on a £2.8 million community hub project in Fife.

The council's Building Services team is redeveloping a former office building into a new community hub facility in Cowdenbreath.

The Stenhouse Street project has been designed by the local authority's Property Services and is due to open in June 2017.

Overall, the scheme is expected to cost £2.892m, with £2.592m from the council's Community Investment Fund and £300,000 from a Scottish Government grant.

Once completed, the facility will become home to a multi-function community hall, creche, outdoor play area, a lift and a youth hub. Other features include learning and community kitchens, a cafe, bar facilities, a learning centre, recording and rehearsal studios, meeting and training rooms as well as offices.

Raymond Johnston, Property Services Service Manager, said: "Over the next two months, the pace of work on site will increase to progress the internal refurbishment and to complete groundworks, below ground surface water and drainage works and foundations to allow the steel frame to be built for the community hall. The steel frame is progressing and is being built by a local subcontractor off site. Within the existing building the new internal partitions are progressing well."

Cllr Mark Hood added: "This will give the Cowdenbeath community the facilities needed by a thriving community. Once complete, the local residents will have a modern venue to host the many activities that bring the community together."
