Council Warns Residents To Be Alert Of Housing Survey Scam

Angus Council is warning residents to be alert after reports of a cold caller claiming to be carrying out housing survey work.

The local authority was contacted by a resident after a doorstep caller claimed to have the council's permission to carry out roof and wall surveys of the property.

In addition, the person mentioned a surveyor visiting the area at a later date as well as the offer of a special deal, but did not mention any costs.

The council said it has not given its consent for any company to contact residents.

It added: "July is Scam Awareness Month and we urge you to be on your guard for cold callers, bogus salesmen and rogue workmen.

"If you have concerns over who is carrying out the work check with trading standards via ACCESSLine. If you think a crime is being committed or you or someone you know feels threatened, contact Police Scotland on 101."
